My mom is pretty much non verbal at this point, her word recall was amongst the first major signs something was wrong. We don’t know anymore how much of her silence is her being unaware or just being unable to make the words happen. Visits are short and horrible, for me, not for her.

Yeah... My grandmother slipped back into Italian before she went nonverbal. We used to think her misplacing names and doing a roll call whenever she was trying to call one of us (MichaelGuyGregPaul...JARED!) was just funny. Anyhow, we did reach a point towards the end where only my aunt (this aunt) was visiting her at the nursing home. Aging is a vicious and cruel cycle.
